Call it training. A 'conditioning hike' if you will, but after a winter of basically sliding my feet backwards and forwards it's time to 'get my hike on'. From the smooth sliding of cross country skiing it's time to get my legs used to the pitch and yaw of hiking and running again. So with a little light gear in my pack and heavy metal in my ears I donned running shoes and yomped into the hills for a few hours.
It was partially the weather, something to do with the solitude of the midweek hills and probably having Black Sabbath's Black Sabbath pounding through my headphones that helped to give this day it's horror movie atmosphere.
"Stay on the road. Keep clear of the moors. Beware the moon, lads"
