The sun sets on another day

Sometimes life isn't predictable or dependable. Things change.

The islands around Sotra have been sitting there, casually shrugging off the attentions of pounding Arctic storms, scouring wind and driving rain for thousands of years. Resolute and unyielding. They were there before any of us and will be there long after we are gone.

It's good to put things into perspective.

Glad to see some activity here ^_^

I hope life is going smoother now, being in a foreign country can be tough at the best times, especially when one doesn't speak the language perfectly. Anyhow, take care and if you need to escape the rain, the sun is still shining here in Finland!

Hendrik - thanks for your support. A couple of rough weeks lie ahead but there is light at the end of the tunnel. The weather here is atrocious but I can't escape just yet. Practicalities to attend to (like having to move house - AGAIN!) and school starts next week. Maybe a trip to Finland to enjoy the colours of early autumn in the forest would do me good. We'll see.

Oh no, moving house again? Terrible - I just hope you don't have too much stuff to carry around, and don't need to move to far from where you're living now.

There are plenty of trails and National Parks around here, so if you're able to escape you're welcome to stop by and come hiking with me!

Hendrik - yup, moving tomorrow then moving again a few weeks later. It's complicated but i'll be settled in early September. It's surprising how much stuff you acquire even when you try and 'live light'. It's been cathartic though, moving gives you a chance to redistribute and recycle all kinds of stuff you hold onto 'just in case'.

I'll be able to escape sometime around the end of September/early October. I'll give you a shout around then and see if we can arrange something. That would be cool.

End of September/ beginning of October is a good time for me as well, and it would be cool indeed to walk together!

I agree, as I moved last year it was surprising how much stuff I collected over the years. And also now, with buying new gear, I feel the same - buying quite some equipment. Well, we might move too some time soon again, so then its again time to get rid of stuff one doesn't need anymore.

Happy moving tomorrow!

Life sometimes gets hectic. The mountains just seem as you say unchanging in stark contrast to our lives. In a few weeks you most likely will be settled in the new home and on a walk in a Finish forest enjoying the Autumn on a Scandinavian bloggers meet up. The photo does provoke contemplation.

Kate - pondering is something I've been doing a lot recently! Sometimes life throws you a curve ball and you need to take some time out to regroup.

Martin - yeah, time is a great healer (so I've been told a lot recently!) and in a couple of weeks I'll be settled again and looking forward to hopefully a wee break in Finland and longer term, another Norwegian winter full of snow and skiing (I know, it's still August!).

Heck, I feel for you. Sometimes it feels like it's just one damn thing after another. But the storms pass eventually, and I hope yours does quickly too. The mountains will still be there when it does.

Chris - cheers! The storm is blowing out already and yes, those mountains aren't going anywhere! My Norwegian summer has been short but the flip-side is winter approaches...

Enjoy the move, we moved over the weekend. I remember once moving with 7 boxes half way around the world, not anymore.

Hope all goes well, Finland is a great place to visit hope you get that window of opportunity.
