Scandinavian Mystery Box

Nothing is new, we borrowed this idea from Jason Klass who borrowed it from someone else. I think we'd all admit to having too much gear and sometimes buying and using gear for short periods of time before it's retired to the 'bits box'. Sometimes gear doesn't fit in with our 'system' or expectations, sometimes we just buy a lighter version. It sits in the 'bits box' waiting for the day when it might come in useful...

Have you been in your 'bits box' recently? Are all those little bits'n'bobs, doodads, thingummys and what-nots still in there? Perfectly serviceable but lying dormant and unused? Well, lets share these 'bits' with like-minded folk by adding them to the Scandinavian Mystery Box. When the Mystery Box arrives at your house simply have a rummage, take out what you want, put something in and send it on to the next person. This initiative is new to me so I'm happy to hear your ideas, comments and concerns. We'll keep this in Scandinavia for now but if we get a lot of interest from elsewhere we could potentially send this on to another country. Lets keep things pertinent and lightweight. This is not the place to get rid of that 6lb tent and unused Trangia!

Thomas has offered to start so if you want to join in leave your address as a comment here (no addresses will be published so if you want to discuss this idea then add a separate comment) so we can create a post list. Hopefully we'll find homes for lots of things that would have ended up in landfill and help out a friend to boot. If we're left at the end with a box of sporks then we'll try and find a worthy cause to donate them too!

Let the mystery box tour begin...

James - I'm hoping this catches on a bit. I'm sure there are groups in other countries that could do something similar. I hate throwing perfectly good stuff away so if there is anyway it can used by someone else then I'm happy!
